Q If God is real, why do bad things happen?
In London, for example, a woman is beaten in her own home every few seconds. What does God think about this? He cares - he loves every person in our city and he wants to have a friendship with them. God showed this most graphically at the cross - he does not just observe suffering from a distance, he actually comes into a world of sickness, selfishness and suffering and at the cross he takes it upon himself. Jesus takes the reality of all of our wrongs into himself at the cross and he pays the price for it in his death. He then offers us forgiveness and freedom. Our God comes and makes himself known and actually embraces suffering in order to save and free us.
