Q Is there really a heaven and hell?
Are you so keen on justice then? No, probably not. You see, we like justice when it is meted out to others; we’re not so keen when we’re on the receiving end of it. Hell is about justice – it is about paying for what we have done wrong in this life. And we all know if we’re honest that there are things we have thought and done which are wrong, even if they only break the standards we personally expect others to live up to (let alone God’s standards). The amazing thing about Jesus is that he offers to pay for this for us – his death on the cross is in our place. We only need to accept his offer of forgiveness, and receive the gift of eternity in heaven – and avoid the penalty that we deserve.
